Elzette Maarschalk
Biography

Elzette Maarschalk started her acting career during her final BA Drama-year at the University of Pretoria, with the leading role in a feature film by the late Daan Retief: Beloftes van Môre. She started freelancing right away and landed the plum female leading role in the TV-drama, Die Vlakte Duskant Hebron.

During the early 80's Elzette "sync"- translated films & television dramas at the SABC into Afrikaans and two of her films were nominated for best translations. She was a member of PACOFS for 5 years, performing in school's programs, pantomimes, dramas, musicals, comedies and farces. She also played for SAPAC & PACT in a number of pantomimes, comedies and farces. She played the role of Maria-Elena, in the hit musical, Buddy Holly that toured throughout South Africa during 1994 & 1995 and in 2009 in Houtkruis – Die Musical in Artscape, Cape Town and The State Theatre, Pretoria. She also directed the touring production of Houtkruis – Die Musical.

Apart from a series of supporting roles, she also became known for her female leading roles in Die Binnekring 1 & 2, Die Vierde Kabinet, Torings and Arsenaal for which she has received 3 best actress nominations. To her amusement, some "fans" only tend to remember her as Juffrou Gouws from the film, Lipstiek Dipstiek! She resigned after the first 65 x 1-hour episodes of the popular M-Net drama series, Binnelanders and temporarily put a stop to her acting career when she stepped into the role of artists' manger/director/producer. She directed and produced musical productions Simply Irresistible, Joseph Clark – Unplugged and Vivere. Joseph Clark - The Music Of QUEEN was produced in Southern Africa, Italy and Germany and African Crossing was staged in South Africa and in Hamburg in 2008. She translated and directed the sold-out solo comedy Hoe 'n Man Se Kop Werk, featuring Altus Theart, which are being staged at all the major festivals and across South Africa.

In September 2010 she directed Symphonic Queen for the Northern Netherland Symphony Orchestra for an 8-city tour in the Netherlands, featuring Syb Van Der Ploeg, Joseph Clark & Ellen Evers. In 2011 she booked The Queen Experience in The Netherlands and oversaw the run of the show in Amsterdam

Apart from commercial theatre, Elzette books, compiles and directs shows for corporate entertainment, private events and commercial theatre productions.
